A sustainable approach to fleet electrification and sustainability
The world is changing, and how we move goods is changing with it. Climate concerns and customer expectations are pushing businesses to rethink transportation. Road transport is a large contributor to greenhouse gas emissions where heavy- and light duty vehicles represents 7-8% of total emissions in the Nordics . While cutting emissions sounds simple, it’s actually a complex balance between environmental goals and practical business needs.
For us at Best, sustainability isn’t just a corporate checkbox - it’s who we are. We’re committed to creating real change by reimagining how transportation can work. Our approach goes beyond wishful thinking, focusing on practical solutions that reduce environmental impact and at the same time capture the opportunities to improve essential business operations.
SUSTAINABILITY AND FLEET ELECTRIFICATION - IN A SUSTAINABLE WAY
Climate action isn’t about looking good - it’s about making real changes. We’re not just talking sustainability; we’re doing it strategically. 25% of our replaceable fleet is already electric, but we’re not rushing to get rid of every diesel truck just to look good.
Our approach? Use vehicles with renewable diesel to their full potential before switching to electric. It’s like being smart with your tech - you don’t throw away a perfectly good phone just because a new model exists. We’re cutting emissions while minimizing waste, and we measure and celebrate along the journey.
Our game plan isn’t about quick fixes. We are working hard to actually make meaningful climate impact, and we have learned a lot along the way. It is less Instagram-worthy gestures, more intelligent problem-solving. We are driven by creating environmental change - calculating every move to create genuine, systemic change.
ELECTRIFICATION JOURNEY CONTINUES
We will continue our journey with a phased transition of HVO100 vehicles to EVs. By syncing our upgrades with advances in EV development, battery technology, manufacturing sustainability, and renewable energy infrastructure, we achieve more than emission reductions – we create a logistics ecosystem that’s as future-ready as it is environmentally friendly.
WHY WE DO A PHASED TRANSFORMATION
Sustainability isn’t just about adopting new technologies - it’s about making choices that reduce the overall environmental footprint. We have used a phased approach to ensure.
- Minimized Waste: Utilizing the lifecycle of existing vehicles avoids unnecessary manufacturing, disposal and waste.
- Market Readiness: We adopt EVs at a time when technology and infrastructuredeliver maximum value. Important for all sizes of transportation EVs.
- Financial Agility: Our approach enables us to also do additional sustainable investments. We have invested in sustainability projects, charging stations, improved conditions for our employees and haulage partners, and more.
THE RESULTS – REAL IMPACT
While many companies talk about sustainability, we’re have since 2018 delivered the following results:
- 25% of replaceable vehicles in our fleet is now electric
- Significant greenhouse gas reductions – total reduction of 45% since 2020.
- Continuous investment in sustainable infrastructure such as charging stations and facilitation of HVO100 usage.
- Partnerships that drive better worker conditions and systemic change
- Established and refined governance structure to monitor our results
